The Sacramento River Preservation Trust is led by our Executive Director, Lucas RossMerz, with the support of our staff, Board of Directors, partner organizations, members and volunteers.
Lucas is charged with implementing projects and programs that accomplish the fiscal and organizational goals our Board of Directors establish annually.
Having earned a B.S. in Environmental Management and Protection with a concentration in Water Policy and Hydrology from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in 2010, and been raised on and along the banks of the Sacramento River, Lucas is a passionate and knowledgeable advocate for the natural values of California’s largest river. Lucas is a certified white water rafting guide, a fisherman and hunter, 2015 Water Education Foundation Water Leader Alumni, Aldo Leopold Foundation Land Ethic Leader, a Sustainability Task Force Commissioner for the City of Chico, and a member of the steering committee for Outdoor Education For All (OEFA) - a group dedicated to advocating next generation science standard and common core curriculum into k-12 classroom experiences throughout the North State. Lucas travels throughout the state to promote our mission and educate professional groups, citizens, and partner organizations about the importance of our work. Lucas’ knowledge of natural environs of California, water policy, the political process of California, and the California Environmental Quality Act project review procedures have helped us increase our impact in local, regional and statewide projects and solutions.
