Our Mission

Our organization serves California to protect, preserve, and enhance, the natural and cultural values of the Sacramento River, while also supporting ecologically sound farming practices within the Sacramento River Watershed.

Advocacy

Participate in local, regional and statewide River planning efforts

Work with environmental coalitions throughout California

Review and comment on critical environmental regulatory documents

Broker partnerships with and convene with other partners to create bigger voice

Attend scoping, planning, review public hearings

Getting policy folks out on water to show them the Sacramento River

Education

Engage with students to change thoughts on value of environment

Develop programs for elementary through college – students and faculty

Active participant in OEFA (Outdoor Education for All)

Speaker series at Sac River Discovery Center in Red Bluff

Curriculum development that meets requirements for Next-Generation Science Standards and Common Core Standards

Events – hikes, float trips, cleanups, adventures

Expand conservation lands around the river

Provide access for the River by working to give access to flood plain

Create River trip guides – short, long day trips, two day three day, etc.

How We Started

The Sacramento River Preservation Trust was formed in 1984 to stop a project the rock-lining of all outside bend banks along the Sacramento River’s main channel from Chico landing to Red Bluff.
